Body recomposition
Recomp means the scale barely moves while the photos do. It is real for beginners, people coming back, and anyone with fat to spare. It is slow. It is not a myth, and it is not magic.

Who it works for
If you have never lifted properly, or you have been off for months, or your waist is clearly over the line, you can build and lose at the same time. If you are already lean and trained, pick a cut or a bulk.
How to run it
Eat around maintenance, protein high, lift with progressive overload, walk. Judge it by waist, photos, and strength - not a Tuesday weigh-in. A blueprint that is honest about recomp will not promise a six pack in 21 days.
Take the photos or you will quit a working plan
Recomp is slow enough that your brain will call it a fail if you only have a scale. Same light, same stance, every two weeks. If the waist dips and the shoulders look a bit more like they lift, you stay. That is the whole review.
A recomp blueprint should say “the scale may sit still.” If it promises a dramatic before-and-after in 21 days, it is a cut in a costume. Pick the honest one.
Track calories at least at first
So maintenance is not a guess. Then you can loosen the log if the plates are stable. A recomp without a number is just a vibe with a gym membership.

Photos every two weeks or you will quit a working plan
The scale may sit still. If the waist dips and the shoulders look more like they lift, you stay. A 21-day dramatic promise is a cut in a costume. Think 12-16 weeks. New lifters, returners, and people with fat to spare can do both. Lean and trained people pick a cut or a bulk.
Maintenance, protein, overload, walks
Track calories at first so maintenance is not a guess. Then you can loosen the log. A recomp without a number is a vibe with a membership. It is slow. It is not a myth.
Different search, same physics as lose-and-gain
Do not run two PDFs that argue. Take the honest blueprint. Judge waist, photos, and strength. The scale can be boring. That is allowed.
FAQ
- How long does a recomp take?
- Think 12-16 weeks before you decide it “didn’t work.” Faster changes usually need a dedicated cut.
- Should I track calories on a recomp?
- Yes, at least at first, so “maintenance” is not a guess.
- When do I stop recomping?
- When you are lean enough that further fat loss needs a dedicated cut, or thin enough that further muscle needs a surplus.
- Do I need a surplus day?
- Not required. A flat week is enough for most recomp candidates. Cycle only if it helps you train.
