Evening snacking is wrecking my deficit, what actually helped you

Posting this at 10:47pm while actively eating crackers so, you know.

F29, 71kg, trying to get to 65. Daytime is perfect. I eat ~1400 by 7pm, feel fine, feel in control. Then 9pm hits and I eat 500-800 calories of whatever is in the cupboard. Every. Single. Night.

I have tried: brushing teeth (I just brush again after), herbal tea (I drink it with the crackers), not buying snacks (I eat cereal instead), going to bed early (I lie there thinking about food).

What actually worked for people. Not the "just have willpower" stuff.

1400 by 7pm is the problem, not 9pm. You are not snacking because you lack discipline, you are snacking because you are under-eating all day and your body collects the debt at night.

Move 300-400 calories from the day into a planned 9pm meal. Greek yogurt with protein powder and frozen berries, or eggs on toast, whatever. Eat it on purpose at 9. The crackers stop when the hunger is actually fed instead of held off.

I think I have been treating the night eating as the failure and the day as the success when it might be the other way round. Going to try this.

This. Every client I have had with this problem was eating 1200-1400 during the day and "ruining it" at night. The night eating was the body being right.

Update after 12 days: moved 350 kcal to a planned 9pm meal (usually skyr, protein powder, berries, sometimes 2 eggs on toast instead). Night snacking happened twice in 12 days instead of 12 in 12. Weight is down 0.9kg. Day calories went up and total went down. Thanks all.

Protein at breakfast. I know it sounds unrelated. I moved from toast to 3 eggs or 200g skyr and the 9pm thing just got quieter. Not gone, quieter. Took about 10 days to notice.

Honestly for me it was boredom plus a specific sofa. I eat when I sit in that spot after 9. Moved the snack bowl to the kitchen and started doing the washing up at 9pm instead of sitting. Stupid but it worked.

Sleep? I snack at night when I'm tired more than when I'm hungry.

Probably 6.5 hours. Which is not great. Everything on this forum comes back to sleep eventually doesn't it.
