High protein low calorie meals
The search is really “how do I stay full on a cut.” Volume and protein. Not a spice called discipline.

Meals that punch above their calories
Greek yogurt with berries, a big egg scramble with extra whites, white fish and potatoes, extra-lean mince and rice, tofu stir-fry with a pile of veg. Season like you mean it. Bland food is why people order pizza.
Build a rotation, not a museum
Five meals you like, on repeat. A Look Like Us meal plan already names portions. You can swap the protein as long as the grams stay.
Build a plate in two minutes
Half the plate is lean protein, a fist of carbs you earned with training or hunger, the rest veg or fruit. Season it. That is a high-protein low-calorie meal. You do not need a 40-ingredient “macro bowl” from a person who does this for a job.
Repeat the winners. Variety is how meal plans die in week two. A written blueprint already picked meals that hit the number. Cook those, swap one if you hate it, and stop shopping recipes at 11pm.
Seasoning is not optional on a cut
Low-calorie high-protein food tastes like cardboard when you cook it like cardboard. Salt the chicken. Use lemon, chilli, vinegar, herbs, mustard, hot sauce, a measured yogurt dip. Bland boxes are why people order pizza at 8pm and then blame willpower.
Calories in spices are usually noise. Calories in creamy sauces are not. Learn the difference with a tablespoon and two weeks of logging. After that, flavour is a skill, not a leak.
Keep five flavour tools in the house: salt, acid, heat, a herb, and one creamy thing you measure. That set turns white fish into dinner. It also stops you needing a takeaway because the box was sad. If you cannot name your five, you are cooking bland on purpose and then blaming the calorie target.
White fish, yogurt, and other high-return plates
200 g of Greek yogurt can be 20-plus grams of protein for a small calorie cost. A white fish fillet plus potatoes and a pile of veg fills a plate. Extra-lean mince with cabbage or a tomato sauce stretches. Egg scramble with extra whites. Tofu in a hot pan with vegetables.
You need five of these you like, not a museum of 40 influencer bowls. Repeat the winners. Swap the protein if the shop has a better price. Keep the gram target.
Cook the fish in a hot pan with a measured teaspoon of oil, not a puddle. Yogurt bowls need a protein label you check once: 150 g of a weak yogurt is not 150 g of a 10 g-per-100 pot. Frozen white fish is fine. Tinned tuna in water is fine. The return comes from protein per calorie.
- Yogurt or cottage cheese you will eat cold.
- A white fish or extra-lean mince dinner.
- A tofu or egg lunch that reheats without dying.
Batch the protein, change the sauce
Cook a tray of chicken or tofu on Sunday. Change the sauce on Wednesday so you are not eating the same beige. The calorie math stays if the sauce is measured. The boredom leaves. That is meal prep for a cut, not a tasting menu.
Keep a backup tin of tuna or a scoop of powder for the day the box stays at home. A high-protein low-calorie week dies when lunch is I-will-figure-it-out and the shop is a meal deal.
Make two sauces on Sunday if that is what keeps you opening the box: a tomato one and a yogurt-chilli one, each portioned. Ten minutes. The protein tray then lasts. If you refuse to eat cold chicken, pack a way to heat it or switch that lunch to yogurt and fruit plus a tin.
Hunger at 4pm is a volume problem
If you are climbing the walls at 4pm, look at lunch. Was it 350 calories of dry chicken and six leaves? Add vegetables, fruit, or a potato. Check you actually hit 30-40 g of protein. Coffee is not lunch.
Some people also need to move calories later. A tiny lunch and a heroic dinner plan is how the vending machine wins. Eat a real midday plate. Save a planned yogurt for 4pm if that is your weak hour. Hunger is information. Starving until night is a design error.
Test it for three workdays. Bigger lunch, same calories: more veg, a fruit, a potato. If 4pm goes quiet, you solved it. If 4pm is still loud and lunch was already big, the daily target may be too low or sleep is junk. Do not keep adding just coffee and calling it discipline.
FAQ
- Are egg whites necessary?
- No. Whole eggs are food. Whites are a tool when you need more protein without more fat.
- Can I use protein powder as a meal?
- As a stopgap. Real meals keep you fuller. A shake plus fruit is fine for breakfast if it keeps the day on track.
- Are low-fat cheeses worth it on a cut?
- They can help you hit protein without the fat calories of a full cheddar block. If you hate them, eat a smaller amount of the cheese you like and weigh it. Palatability keeps the plan alive.
- Can I eat potatoes on a high-protein low-calorie day?
- Yes. Potatoes are filling for the calories. They are not a protein food. Put them next to the fish or the yogurt, not instead of them.
- Why do these meals still leave me hungry at night?
- The daily total may be too low, or you stacked the calories early and went to bed empty. Move 200-300 to dinner. Add volume. If nights are a binge pattern, that is a different problem than spice.
